Why We’re Raising Our Prices - And Why It Matters

We want to take a moment to speak candidly with our readers, writers, and supporters.
Starting this month, you may notice a small increase in the prices of our books. This isn’t a decision we made lightly, and it’s not one we ever hoped to have to make. But due to recent changes in Amazon KDP’s printing costs and royalty structure, we’ve reached a point where maintaining our current pricing would mean receiving less than 10% of the retail price on each book sold.
To put it plainly: staying at those margins would drive us out of business.
As an independent press, Farthest Star Publishing operates on a shoestring, not just because we have to, but because we believe in putting stories first. We’re committed to publishing bold, imaginative science fiction, fantasy, and horror from voices you might not otherwise hear. We champion stories that break the mold, take risks, and explore new worlds.
But in order to keep doing that, we have to be sustainable. And that means ensuring our authors are compensated, our editors and artists are supported, and our lights stay on.
The price changes are modest, just a few dollars more per title, but they’ll make a big difference in helping us survive in this rapidly shifting landscape. We want to be transparent with you about why this is happening, and why it matters.
We’re grateful to every reader who’s picked up one of our books, reviewed a story, or recommended us to a friend. Your support has helped build a small but passionate community of speculative fiction lovers, and we’re honored to keep bringing you the best stories we can find.
Thank you for sticking with us through this change, and for continuing to support indie publishing.
Where will your Farthest Star take you…
— The Team at Farthest Star Publishing
